Mouth guard

I don't know what the mouth guard in basketball is for. It's not like they're gonna get punched in the face like boxers do... Do they?

Modern basketball has become so athletic and power*l, that mouth guards are strongly recommendable, especially for large players under the basket. Certainly mouth guards meant for boxers are not suitable for basketball, because these are quite substantial and no not enable speaking. The variety is wide and most mouth guards available on the market are meant for martial arts. Yet these may not be suitable for basketball unless their activity is much more physical.
