How come Alaska is part of the United States? It's beside Canada and yet it is one of the States of the US. What gives?

Yes, it also makes me wonder so I did some research. According to some sources, Alaska was bought by the US from Russia on March 1867 at the sum of only $7.2 million or at about $0.2 cents per acre. It is the largest US state and has the longest coastline. It is also the fourth least po*ted state in the country.

This is because we bought Alaska from Russia for a silly price of something like 3 cents an acre. I bet they are kicking themselves now.   And it never belonged to Canada so that's why. U.S wanted it, so they bought it. It's as simple as that.
