Construction Supplies

How do engineers calculate the amount of materials to be used in construction such as the number of truckload for sand and gravel, the number of cement bags, and other building materials?

Actually they can calculate the materials that will be used based on the area or dimension of the structure to be built. But generally, those are not exact amounts but only estimation. Sometimes they even run out of building materials that they were forced to order for more supplies. Other builders also operate on a day to day basic and ask for supplies based on what's needed for that day.

Building engineers and architect can make an estimate of the amount of materials that can be used for construction. By measuring up the dimensions of the area, they can calculate the materials to be used. Sometimes, they also order in bulk or large amounts so they won’t run out of supplies. It really depends on the way builders operate as some building try to order supplies on project basis.
